This race is a Carytown tradition. In
its sixth year, it is again being held in Carytown in front of the
Cary Court Shopping Center. The course is relatively flat and features
scenic Cary Street and Grove Avenue. This is one of Richmond Road Runners
Club's largest races and is the Road Runners Club of American Virginia
State 10K Championship. The course is USATF certified with disposable
chip timing. This year we have a special guest, running legend Bill
Rodgers. Bill will be running the race and available after the event. The
race is preceded by a free 1/2 mile kids run. The course record
holders are Cary Chaffe (32:18) and Maria Elena Calle (34:29).

Virginia State 10K
Championship The Carytown 10K is the official Virginia State
Championship race designated by the Road Runners Club of America. Winners
will be the State Champions for 2010. Plaques will be awarded to the
overall, masters, and grandmasters male and female winners. Plaques will
not be mailed.

James River Challenge
Sign up and run both the James River Scramble 10K on May 15
and the Carytown 10K on May 16 and receive a commemorative medal. There is
a limit of 500 participants. You must register for both races together.
The combined event registration fee is $40 through April 30 and $50
beginning May 1. The James River Scramble 10K is part of the Dominion
River Rock Celebration and is staged from Brown's Island. Medals will be
awarded at the Cary Court awards ceremony after the Carytown 10K. Medals
will not be mailed.

The Course Starts
and ends at Cary Court in Carytown and is run mostly on Cary Street and
Grove Avenue. The course is flat and fast USA Track and Field standards
certified (VA09019RT). There will be mile markers at each mile and a 5K
split clock. The race will be run on open roads. Traffic will be
controlled. Water and Gatorade will be available at about 2 and 4.5
miles.

Free Kid's
Run
Join us for the Harvey Memorial 1/2 mile FREE kid's run presented by
the Carytown Merchants Association. The kid's race starts at 7:30 and each
runner will receive a medal. The race is free but each child must be
registered to run.

Race Charity The
Bryan and Kathryn Harvey Family Memorial Endowment, a fund of The
Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia, was
established to honor the memory of Bryan, Kathryn, Stella and Ruby Harvey.
The purpose of the fund is to provide music, visual art and performing
arts enrichment in the Richmond area. For more information call (804)

Entry Rules and
Information Entry fees are non-refundable and entries are
non-transferable, no exceptions. All registrants (before May 11) who
provide a valid email address will receive a confirmation email. Do not
mail entry forms after May 1. After May 1st, sign up online through 11:59
p.m. on May 12th. The race is limited to the first 2500 participants. The
James River Challenge is limited to 500 runners. Contact the race
director, Don Garber, at Carytown10k@rrrc.org for
additional information. Registration will close when capacity is reached.
The Richmond Road Runners Club is not responsible for lost or misdirected
race applications. There will be no race day registration. The race is
limited to the first 2500 registered runners.
Entry Fees The cost of the race is $25 before May 1, and then
$30. RRRC members who register online before May 1 will receive a $5
discount. There is no credit card transaction fee for this race. Don't
want to use a credit card? Register online and mail in a check. Checks
must be mailed by May 1.

Packet Pickup Race
packets may be picked up on Friday, May 14th from 1 to 5:30 p.m. and
Saturday, May 15th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Roadrunner Running Store,
3002 West Cary Street (804 353 8365). You may pick up a race packet for
another runner provided you have a copy of their photo identification or
their e-mail race confirmation. Race packets may be picked up on the day
of the race between 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. in the Cary Court parking lot.

Race Day
Information The Carytown 10K welcomes and encourages walkers.
Enjoy a beautiful scenic walk/run through Carytown on a spring morning,
however, you must be able to complete the 6.2 miles by 10 a.m. (two
hours). The race starts at 8 a.m. Race day packet pick-up opens at 7 a.m.
The FREE kid's run starts at 7:30 a.m.

Parking Parking is
available in the decks north of Cary Street and in the Ukrop's parking lot
at Thompson and Cary. Please do not park at Elwood
Thompsons'.

Race Timing &
Results The race will be computer chip timed by Kale
Running using disposable timing chips. No need to take them off and
return them. There will be mile markers at each mile. The 5K split time
will be provided. Your friends and family will be able to register and
track your progress during the race. Click here to sign

email after the race with your results.

Water Stops Water
stops will be at miles about 2 and 4.5. Gatorade and Diamond Springs water
will be provided at each stop and at the finish line.

Awards and
Prizes All pre-registrants (before May 1) will receive a
technical T-shirt. Virginia State Championship Plaques will be awarded to
the overall, masters, and grandmasters male and female winners. The top
three overall male and female finishers will receive plaques and running
shoes compliments of The Roadrunner Running Store and Mizuno. First male
and female masters and Clydesdale and Athena will receive gift
certificates and plaques. First place in five-year age groups will receive
a commemorative award. Second and third place will receive ribbons. The
award presentation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Cary Court. Awards will not
be mailed. One random runner will receive a Garmin GPS watch at
the end of the awards ceremony. Stick around!
There will be other random prizes during the awards ceremony. You must be
present at the awards ceremony to win. There will be other random prizes
complements of The Road Runner Running Store.

Richmond Road Runners
Club The Richmond Road Runners Club is one of the largest
running clubs in America with almost 3000 members. We are a non-profit
organization whose mission is to support running in the Metro Richmond
area. We do this by sponsoring races, helping other groups put on races,
coaching training teams, supporting group runs, and providing academic
